Wow, no connection and bronchitis
and so far behind. Somehow between a Friday nite and Sunday morning I lost the network adaptor in my laptop. Not the one that attaches to it but the one built in to it ( that is a whole other post that just drives me crazy but we will not go there). While dealing with my computer I lost most of my sanity and I also was diagnosed with bronchitis and as a result am very behind. Part of what was tried to bring my network adaptor back was a reboot, I mean I lost 3 years. Do not get me wrong I did get a chance to do some backing up but at the critical time I did forget a few items. I realize looking back that there were things I should do differently from backing up, to security etc. but hindsight is 20/20.
By the time I thought I had it all figured out and was back online, I realized one thing I forgot to back up was my passwords. I am not sure about you but I have about 150 sites that need a password. I do not use the same password for everything. In this week or two of reconstruction I realize one of the few things I did correctly was Roboform. I even sprung for the pro version as I wanted unlimited passwords remembered and ability to personalize the identity I could/would choose to save. What does it do?
RoboForm is an award-winning automated password manager and web form filler with some serious Artificial Intelligence. This is what it does:
• AutoSave passwords in browser.
• AutoFill passwords to login form.
• Click Login button for you.
• Fill personal info into online forms.
• Save offline passwords & notes.
• Generate Secure Random Passwords.
• Encrypt passwords and personal data using AES, Blowfish, RC6, 3-DES or 1-DES algorithms.
• All personal info is stored on your computer only.
• Take RoboForm with you on USB disk for ultimate portability.
• Sync your passwords and notes to Palm or Pocket PC.
• Backup & Restore, Print your passwords.
• More features: drill down for more.
• It is well-behaved: NO ADWARE, NO SPYWARE.
• Works under Windows as an add-on to IE-based browsers.
• Works with Netscape, Mozilla, Firefox under Windows.
I love it, I would even go so far to say that it brought back 70% of my sanity.
I was able to log in to reconstruct my passwords to most if not all of my links. One of the Roboform also suggests a product called GoodSync which I had not explored fully. In backing up my favorites I had two lists that had some stuff on one and some stuff on another. It was annoying and I knew that in the long run it would cost me more time to keep both list without some coordination, on the GoodSync site it states ;
“GoodSync synchronizes and backs up files such as photos, financial documents, MP3s, e-mails between desktops, laptops, servers, and external drives.
GoodSync is the latest software in a series of highly reliable, easy-to-use products from Siber Systems, the makers of RoboForm. It uses an innovative synchronization algorithm that offers true bi-directional synchronization.”
I gave it a try. I will not say I used it perfectly as I lost some bookmarks. As I had way tooo many any way I am okay with that. I will do better about backing up in the future and making sure the bookmarks are better organized. But I can say that as with most things I try to determine what am supposed to learn from this experience. And for the next few weeks things may be behind or slower as I continue to reconstruct but hopefully I am building a more solid
foundation and a less time consuming process.
Always progressing…
P.S. remember there is a free version you can try with both of the programs. Also if you are on the road a lot or travel without your pc and want to take you information withyou look into the Roboform togo , I love it!
